Birthstone for the month of June

The pearl is the official birthstone for the month of June and comes from the Latin word ‘Pirum’, meaning pear, which reflects the shape of the gem. The pearl is associated with loyalty, faithfulness and friendship. The Diamond Studio is an official stockist of The Jersey Pearl collection. Jersey Pearls are real undyed pearls which are carbon neutral and fresh water cultivated.

Jersey Pearls come in different colours including white, pink, peach and purple, furthermore they can be set in various different hand-made designs such as rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

As with all of our jersey pearl jewellery, we have plated the sterling silver with rhodium to protect the pearls from tarnishing as well as for those with sensitive skin.

Our Jersey Pearl range includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings and can be fitted to suit any budget and design requirements. They are the perfect gift for those celebrating their birthday or any other special occasion throughout the month of June!

For further details regarding designs please don’t hesitate to contact us. All contact details can be found below.

Best Wishes,
The Diamond Studio

The Diamond Studio Daily 13/01/2014

This is one massive year for Scotland, The Commonwealth Games, EMA's and The Ryder Cup to name just a few are landing on our doorstep. So today just in time to kick off an amazing year we launch our Scotland Collection featuring its first five pieces inspired by Scotland, its wealth of heritage and the great Robert Burns. Everyday for the next two weeks we are going to bring you the best parts of Scotland finishing on the big day its self  The Burns Supper. So lets kick off with some best bits (in no particular order) of the brawest place on earth.

  1. Robert Burns.
  2. Tunnock’s Teacakes.
  3. The fact that after surveying people from all over the UK, the Scottish accent was regarded as by far the most trusted.
  4. Grand Theft Auto. We made that, we did. Ditto: Lemmings.
  5. Having the Gay Gordons hardwired into your physical subconscious as part of your education..
  6. Kelvingrove Museum.
  7. The ‘will I make the last train back to Edinburgh or not?’ Russian Roulette sensation of queuing for Pizza Crolla at 11.28pm.
  8. The Barrowland sign.
  9. That we come from a country that produced James Kelman, AL Kennedy, Irvine Welsh and Ali Smith, all world renowned, all completely different writers, in a relatively small period of time.
  10. Eating deep fried whitebait and chips on the harbour wall at Anstruther.
  11. Partick Thistle.
  12. The huge arch that carries Waterloo Place over Calton Road in Edinburgh.
  13. The pronunciation, versatility and myriad usage of ‘gallus’, ‘mince’ and ‘magic’
  14. The series of step locks at Fort Augustus: a feat of engineering with a view stretching across Loch Ness.
  15. Arthur’s Seat. An extinct volcano in the middle of a city.
  16. Nardini's ice cream sundaes.
  17. Chips and cheese from the King’s CafĂ© after a loooong night in Sleazy’s.
  18. The way old sandstone buildings look cut out against the sky on clear, sunny winter days..
  19. The classic Scottish/Indian curry. Especially from Mr Singhs in Glasgow.
  20. The beauty and engineering skill of the Forth Bridge. And that the paint job will never be finished.
  21. The fact that optimistic and cold-resistant children still swim in the sea at Portobello beach in February.
  22. That touring bands still love a Scottish audience better than any other. And we know they don’t just say that to all the girls.
  23. The sea. Always different, always the same.
  24. The first few days of the Edinburgh Festival. Before you remember that you hate flyer's and too-wacky street performers, it all seems kind of magical.
  25. That Scots having great sporting success in any field is still greeted with shock, then delight, then everyone claims to have known the sports person’s father. And they probably did.
  26. Salt’n’sauce/ salt’n’vinegar. Choose wisely.
  27. Hot toddies.
  28. Irn Bru and Tennent’s Lager adverts. Wee bits of genius.
  29. The Falkirk Wheel.
  30. Being welcomed abroad by all nations.
  31. ‘500 miles’ by The Proclaimers.
  32. Glasgow School of Art hipster kids in Deirdre Barlow spectacles, rocking the skinny jeans way before Kate Moss.
  33. The BIG glitterball in the ABC. It’s the biggest in Europe apparently. Although we’re not exactly sure who measures these things mind you,
  34. Pringle knitwear (off the golf course only, mind).
  35. ‘Roamin’ in the Gloamin’’.
  36. The Fratellis
  37. Castle's
  38. Being far away from home and suddenly becoming the ultimate Scottish ambassador as soon as anyone takes an interest in your accent.
  39. The Northern Lights
  40. Never feeling lonely, even if you wanted to be.

Diamond Studio Daily 30/10/2013

Today's diamond of the day is The Amsterdam Diamondblack diamond weighing 33.74 carats (6.75 g). It's cut to a pear shape and was sold in 2001 for $US352,000, the highest price paid for a black diamond at auction.

  • Black diamonds are also called Carbonado. A name coined by Portuguese because of the diamonds resemblance to porous charcoal.
  • They are found in the Central Africa and Brazil, with Brazil being the major source.
  • The natural colour of a black diamond ranges from black to dark greys.

With celeb power couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West getting hitched to the tune of a 15 carat rock we decided to choose our top 50 celebrity engagement rings and give you a daily dose of love.

50 - In at number 50 its Scarlett Johansson, Romain Dauriac proposed to Scarlett Johansson, not with an enormous, chunky rock, but a delicate Art Deco-designed ring. It features three round-cut diamonds laid vertically to create an eye-catching rectangular shape. Beautiful.

Diamond Studio Stories!

Here at The Diamond Studio, we often find that some of the pieces we make and the customers we have often have brilliant and interesting stories to go along with them!

When engagement rings are involved, we put everything we have into making sure that the finished product is exactly how the couple want it to be.
This can involve searching the globe for the perfect diamond, designing and making a bespoke mount - or sometimes just re-sizing something we already have made up, if someone likes what they see in the Studio!

Since we gladly make bespoke pieces, we have had some fabulous ideas from customers, and amazing pieces made to their specifications!
Sometimes there has been a story to do with why a piece is being made, an inscription on the inside of the piece which has special meaning - or perhaps even something to do with the design itself!

Do you have a Diamond Studio Story?
If so, we'd love to hear from you!

Send us in your photos and videos of your Diamond Studio Story, and you could feature on our Facebook page or YouTube channel!

You can e-mail us info@thediamondstudio.co.uk

Looking forward to seeing/hearing all your stories!

The Real Hustle in The Diamond Studio

Yesterday was great fun for The Diamond Studio as 29 became the filming venue for BBC3 television programme The Real Hustle. The corridors were buzzing with people and excited faces which was great to see.

Presenter Jessica-Jane was first to discover The Diamond Studio as she looked for a mirror in the former spa! And within the hour the stars of the show were glittering with our diamonds and unique jewellery. The cast loved our pieces and as a result our jewellery will now be worn on the show when the next season is aired! It is a great coup for the Studio to be involved with such an exciting high profile show.

New Recruit Polly Parsons looked great in our diamond bangle and cocktail ring.

As did New Recruit Jazz Lintott who modelled the stunning spinning 'boxer' ring.

And Jessica-Jane Clement dazzled in our gorgeous diamond necklace and cocktail ring.

The filming was on all day, so the jewellery was being used until late, and this morning has us wondering if we should get our jewellery checked at the workshop to confirm it's still real? It was The Real Hustle after all....!! But then again, one off pieces are hard to replicate...

Jewellery Makeovers at The Diamond Studio

The Diamond Studio specialises in all things jewellery, from design to creation and even remodelling.

Jewellery remodelling can comprise anything from turning yellow gold into white gold, or melting down and re-creating a piece from the basics of your old jewellery, and everything in between. Customers modify their jewellery for many reasons, be it old wedding jewellery, items that no longer fit, or pieces that just look old fashioned in the 21st Century.

Most jewellery holds sentimental value so it is unlikely to be thrown out, but it is a waste to leave any old jewellery sitting unused in a drawer. We can create beautiful designs from unworn jewellery, using the existing metal and stones. The jewellery doesn't even have to stay as it is, for example pendants can become rings, and rings can become brooches.

The Diamond Studio offers competitive affordable rates to resize rings, rhodium plate jewellery or remodel designs of existing pieces. For a quote, either pop in with the jewellery or e-mail info@thediamondstudio.co.uk for more information.

Personalised Football Jewellery- The Ideal Gift for Football Fans

The Diamond Studio holds exclusive jewellery ranges for both Rangers Football Club and Celtic Football Club. The ranges are unique, fresh and exciting, and continue to sell well for both sides of the Old Firm as the collections increase in popularity.

It was a delight to provide one Celtic fan with a bespoke Celtic FC ring for his upcoming wedding, and to sell several pairs of Rangers cuff links as wedding gifts for grooms. The collections have also proved popular for birthday gifts and for fans wishing to treat themselves to something associated with their favourite team.

We are continually amazed at the fans devotion to their clubs and as a result, The Diamond Studio is now pleased to offer personalisation of any item from each of the collections. Items can be personalised with any of the Players signatures or shirt numbers, as well as more personal dates, names or nicknames. This marks an exciting development for the collections, as many items will hopefully become collectors pieces. It also allows for fans to show additional support for their favourite player!

The image shows the Rangers Football Pendant with Ian Durrants signature on the reverse.

Emeralds

The Diamond Studio isn't just diamonds. Along with sapphires we have also begun designing some beautiful new pieces with emerald, a deep green stone with a rich exuberant colour which adds character and style to any piece.

The emerald has long been associated with glamour and timeless good taste. The oldest emerald mine is Cleopatra's mine, which dates back to 2000 BC- although the oldest emerald is though to date back to Babylonian times (4000 BC). The mine is located near Cairo, and named after this infamous femme-fatale owing to her love of the stone. This beautiful mineral was also a favourite of Hollywood starlet Marlene Dietrich, and the icon of classic style, Jackie O. It's therefore no coincidence then that the Beryl family of gemstones, to which the emerald belongs, has long been believed to increase the wearers attractiveness to the opposite sex and promote love.

The emerald is incredibly rare, and carat for carat is more valuable than the diamond. In Paganism, green is considered a colour of prosperity. This has made it a favourite to the upper echelons of society, as a strong status symbol. Due to this, the emerald was a central stone in the Russian crown jewels.

Emerald is also the birthstone for May, and is associated with the star signs Taurus, Cancer and Gemini.

We have some gorgeous emeralds in stock just now, feel free to pop into The Diamond Studio for a look. We have a stone to suit your style and budget, sourcing and designing our pieces to suit your exact specifications. So whether you are looking for an elegant gift, or an unusual jewellery piece, we can help.
