The Pearl

As you know there is 10% off our pearl range, Jersey Pearl so we thought you might be interested to know a little bit more about this organic gem…

Our pearls are supplied by Jersey Pearl, a family company with over 25 years experience in the creation of pearl jewellery. All of their pearls are natural fresh water pearls. This means that they are entirely natural. Like any other naturally formed gem, pearls come in a variety of shape, sizes and colour from white through to yellow, pink and black. The combination of different colours and shaped- round or baroque- creates a dramatic and contemporary look, while white round pearls provide a timeless and elegant necklace or pair of earrings.

Pearls form naturally in molluscs, most commonly in oysters. The quality of the pearl is affected by the molluscs and environment which means that pearl farming generally leads to conservation of natural beauty spots, in an effort to achieve the best pearl harvest. A pearl takes roughly 8 years to form.

The freshwater pearl is often given as a gift on first wedding anniversaries, but it also associated with 3rd, 12th, and 30th anniversaries. It is associated with the month of June and the sun signs Gemini and Cancer.

Pearls have a long history, and are often regarded as more precious than even diamonds. Ancient Persian culture believed pearls were the tears of spirits; in India they were believed to be the dew from the suns first rays and the ancient Romans believed pearls were droplets of water falling off of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty.

Throughout history they have been a symbol of power, affluence, love, luck and health.

The Jersey Pearl collection is the embodiment of ‘affordable luxury’, and even more so with 10% off so don’t miss out!
